just 18 in gaithersburg. 20 now in quantico. so you get the idea. it is a chilly day with a little bit of afternoon sunshine. there is your forecast. snow showers this morning, partly sunny and cold this afternoon. 37 is wishful thinking. i think we'll be in the low 30s. we were 37 at 4:00 a.m. this morning. a cold workweek and i'll have that for you in a couple of minutes. gurvir? >> tucker, thanks. and we'll continue our winter weather coverage this morning with stacy cohan. >> she's in springfield talking to some commuters and it looks like it hasn't been too bad down there? >> reporter: no, it wasn't too bad. it was actually just sort of pretty i think most people said. some people were asking for more snow, if you can believe that. i never thought anybody would want more snow after last year but they did. take a look at wood bridge this morning. it is early morning in woodbridge. so we went farther south where the snow was a tad more aggressive, if you will. and there was some snow-covered windshields and the grass was lightly covered and the roads were a touch slick. the farther south that you
9:02 am
went, we talked to people from stafford and spotsylvania and told me their ride was a bit more dangerous in the earlyive morning-- early morning hours. and then up in springfield, commuters told us they were enjoying this first snow of the year. >> what do you think? too early for snow? >> way too early. i just moved up from miami so it's snow shock. >> you wish there was more? >> yeah. i want to go skiing. >> how was the driving. fine.
9:03 am
didn't have any problems. >> are you ready for another blizzard? >> i am. >> i love it. it's festive. it's just not too much but yet enough for the holidays. yeah, it's nice. >> and the roads, how were they? >> good and dry. >> reporter: the roads weren't very much of a problem. we were driving around and there were a couple of slots slick farther to the south but it wasn't bad. so i guess it was a little warmup for whatever we get later this winter. here we go again. back to you guys? >> no, we don't want to do it again. >> all right. thanks. we'll stick with the warm-up. this is what folks in minnesota saw. this caused part of the metrodome in minneapolis to collapse. this is time lapsed video you are looking at. you can see the opening up in the roof and then the snow crashing down on to the field. nearly two feet of snow felt. the vikings game and giants had to be postponed. >> i couldn't imagine 65,000 people here and this collapsed. so blow the roof off this thing now and get it going. >> at least i would have had the guys on the roof cleaning it off while the snow was falling. or they should have bui right in the first place so it doesn't collapse. where do they think they were, florida? >> no. where are you from? new york. nobody was hurt when the inflatable top caved in. today's game is going to be played in detroit. meantime residents are still digging out from the

snow. roads were closed in minnesota and white-out conditions made it impossible for drivers to get anywhere. some still tried. there were more than 75 reported crashes and more than 300 vehicles slid off the road or got stuck. and saturday from the board at the airport, hundreds of flights were canceled. airports say they are back in business today. and a big story we're following this morning, the big tax cut compromise is headed for the first test today. on capitol hill the senate could vote on the plan to extend the bush era tax cuts. just down pennsylvania avenue the white house is holding its breath. doug luzader has the latest. >> reporter: there is going to be a lot of kicking and screaming about this but there are some signs this morning that democrats may be giving in. with americans now just weeks away from starting to fill out those tax forms, the tax rates could become a little more clear today. the senate will have the first vote on the plan worked out behind the scenes between the
9:05 am
president and republicans. >> i believe that this will pass. the president has been talking to members. we're all talking to members. and members are talking to each other. >> but even if the senate signs off, the house is going to be the higher hurdle where many democrats are furious at the white house. not only does the plan renew the bush tax cuts and extend unemployment benefits, it lowers what was to be a huge increase in the estate tax next year. but while democrats may seek some changes, they may not ultimately stand in the way. >> we're not talking about blocking the whole thing for that purpose. what we're saying is we need to put the question to test. >> reporter: but the white house sees this as a massive stimulus plan. one-time to help the president seek re-election in 2012 and in the unlikely event this plan is shot down, republicans have a plan b. >> so if the democrats in the house scuttle this deal, that will be the first thing we do is prevent the job-killing tax increase and do it

9:15 am
the end -- >> just heartbreaking. >> -- bitter disappointment. >> and it was a miserable day. and for yourself to go out there says a lot. i know you were disgruntled. so it's good to see the fan base is not depleted. and it looked so good early and then in the middle it was drab. and then donovan mcnabb did the two minute drill perfectly. and nine minutes to go and skins down by 7 and on a fourth down play mcnabb would find over the middle, santana moss, 228 yards for mcnabb, two touchdowns and no picks on a day when he had been -- we heard before the game he was on a short leash and if he didn't play well he would be pulled for rex grossman, bearing the lead here today. but he got it done there. and now all you need to have there, and the 64,000 people in the rain and everybody could be happy and go to overtime and to get the extra point.
